CAFAMORE (Carbon Farming Monitoring, Reporting and Verification)
CAFAMORE (Carbon Farming Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) is an EU-funded research and innovation project designed to support the implementation of the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) framework. Its core objective is to develop robust, science-based monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) methodologies for carbon farming activities at farm and parcel level across the European Union.
CAFAMORE focuses on improving the accuracy, comparability and cost-effectiveness of measuring soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emission reductions from agricultural land. The project combines field measurements, remote sensing, modelling tools and digital MRV systems to generate harmonised data that can be used for certification, policy reporting and market transactions. A key aim is to reduce uncertainty, prevent double counting, and ensure environmental integrity while keeping MRV requirements practical for farmers and land managers.
The project also evaluates how MRV systems can align with EU sustainability safeguards, biodiversity objectives and climate targets, helping bridge scientific evidence with regulatory and market needs. Through pilot studies, stakeholder engagement and policy recommendations, CAFAMORE contributes directly to the operationalisation of carbon farming under EU climate policy.
