As Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws expand across the U.S., Signalfire Group, an EPR and circular economy policy consultancy, has announced its latest initiative: the EPR Academy, a training platform designed to guide companies through emerging compliance demands.
In states such as California, Colorado, New Jersey, and Minnesota, businesses now face requirements to register, track packaging data, and file reports, often for the first time. Many compliance managers and sustainability professionals have expressed concern about adapting operations accordingly. To address this, Signalfire, in partnership with industry advisors and educators, created the EPR Academy to translate legal complexity into actionable steps.
The Academy offers a self-paced training course—typically four to six hours in length—covering critical topics such as state-specific regulations, compostability and post-consumer recycled (PCR) content standards, onboarding through Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), packaging optimization strategies (including eco-modulation), and developments in jurisdictions such as the EU, UK, and Canada. On completing the modules, participants may take an exam to earn a Certificate of Completion, signaling validated expertise in EPR compliance.
Participants also gain ongoing access to the Academy’s Resource Library, featuring readiness checklists, glossaries, and updates to evolving regulations. The program is delivered entirely on-demand, allowing professionals to pause and resume as needed, offering flexibility for busy schedules.
Behind the Academy is a coalition of experts spanning environmental policy, materials management, and corporate sustainability. Among the contributors are individuals from Signalfire Group as well as external instructors.
The launch comes at a pivotal moment: companies that manufacture or distribute consumer-packaged goods into states with EPR mandates now require a clear path to compliance. The EPR Academy aims to combine expert insight with practical tools, equipping firms to navigate new regulations.
