Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) has announced the launch of its next-generation Low Carbon (LC) solar modules, setting a new benchmark for sustainable energy technology. These advanced panels, designed for utility-scale and commercial projects, deliver up to 660 watts of power with efficiency reaching 24.4%. Shipments began in August 2025.

According to Canadia Solar, the LC modules have a carbon footprint of 285 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent per kilowatt, which is lower than most silicon-based modules currently available. This reduction is linked to design and production changes aimed at lowering energy use and emissions.

Key improvements include higher ingot utilization, thinner silicon wafers, and streamlined heterojunction (HJT) cell manufacturing. For instance, reducing wafer thickness cuts silicon use, while simplified cell production lowers energy consumption by up to 5.7%. Overall, these changes reduce the energy needed to produce each module by nearly 11% compared with conventional N-type solar panels.

The result is a shorter “carbon payback time,” meaning the panels offset their manufacturing emissions more quickly. According to Canadian Solar, this helps customers meet two goals: maximizing energy generation while minimizing environmental impact.

The LC modules are also fully compatible with the company’s inverters, ensuring strong performance even in challenging conditions such as high temperatures.

“We are proud to introduce our new environmentally friendly, low-carbon modules, marking a key milestone in sustainable solar manufacturing,” said Thomas Koerner, Corporate Senior Vice President of Canadian Solar.

The company will showcase the modules at RE+ 2025, one of the largest clean energy events in North America, taking place in Las Vegas from September 9 to 11.
